Strategize
Planning the Expedition: Microsoft recently had us design a site for their exciting new series of Dev Camps. The workshops cater to the developer community but also are intended to reach up-and-coming talents that want to learn more about these powerful technologies. They wanted to be sure that the site was user friendly and appealed to a wide audience while exhibiting some cool new features that would wow the web-savvy crowd.
Conceptualize
Setting up Camp: In an effort to drown out any corporate voice, they asked for a playful theme that lent itself to the creative, open ambience of the camps. We designed a space that was both interactive and clutter-free. The paralaxing images give it some whimsy while the simple to navigate data fields mean the information doesn’t get lost. The camping theme lends itself to the relaxed comradery that Microsoft hoped to promote at their events.
Execute
Enjoying the View: Using HTML5 CSS along with Javascript opened up the possibilities for a great deal of creative functionality and made this a fun project to build. We were sure to make it cross browser compatible and templatized the site so that updating new workshop information was push-button easy. With Vimeo embedding and simple social networking links, potential attendees can easily view more detailed info and share with their friends making that many more happy campers.
