Pokémon released a beta version of The Trading Card Game Online, their first (MMOTCG) massively multiplayer online trading card game, in March 2011. Plexipixel was brought in as a development partner to design characters and assist with animation of the tutorials. When the game went through a functionality and design upgrade, Plexipixel was asked to work closely with the internal team on a complete user experience (UX) investigation of the full-featured game.

Plexipixel worked closely with the Pokémon International community team to develop the faces and personalities of the adversarial characters within the online card game. This was the first time Pokémon allowed characters to be designed outside of Japan. And we were rewarded with a cameo of our characters in Happy Meal toy format.

Plexipixel has supported the Pokémon Trading Card Game Online team over the years on the UI design for the game, website design and development, avatar asset illustrations, interstitial designs, in-game asset designs, special effects and more. The tools we use range from paper and pencil, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Flash, as well as Unity.
