Strategize

Open Development: WordPress started as a small, open-source project built on PHP and MySQL. The process to run WordPress on Windows servers was not very easy, so the MIX Online team created the WordPress Installer, a copy of WordPress that has been reprogrammed specifically for Microsoft SQL.
They then enlisted Plexipixel because of our deep WordPress experience to help design and develop a new informational website to spread the word throughout the online community. We were happy to help these two worlds come together!

Conceptualize

Joining Efforts: Talk about community organizing! We had to combine the different technologies and voices of Microsoft and WordPress into one website, continuing the message that this was a complete merging of two previously separate worlds. We knew that the best way to explain the new WordPress installer was by example. We built the site using WordPress, but it is running on Windows with Microsoft SQL Server.

Execute

Public Access: Time to clear out the cobwebs* and make things plain and simple. The WordPress on Microsoft site is set up for designers and developers to easily grab the free version of Microsoft SQL Express to use along with WordPress. We also set up lots of places for people to comment and contribute their advice and ideas.

We used the WordPress installer site to showcase the simplified MySQL and PHP installation capabilities on Windows. We also developed clear instructions how to integrate handy Windows site development tools like Azure and Microsoft SQL into WordPress site building. (We did leave just one cobweb for MIX Online's resident spider).

Measure

Enabling Great Minds: Students from all over the United States are using the programs originally launched through Project Hawaii, creating mobile apps that measure everything from traffic patterns to ambiance-aware ringtones to crowd-sourced tips on where to park.
